The process of assigning buttons to joysticks in X-Plane 11 is simple enough however finding the command to be assigned to the button is not always obvious.
For example a message with the default Cessna C172 will pop up if The directional gyro is not aligned with magnetic north. You can assign a button to one of your joystick/devices to align the gyro.
To assign a button to one of your joysticks/devices you first need to go to the top right of the X-Plane window and when the drop down appears select the settings icon (the three vertical sliders icon).
You now need to select a button on your joystick/device then find the command to assign to it in order to correct the gyro. As the pop up message warns us about the 'gyro' it is easy to assume searching for the word 'gyro' will find the required command however this is not the case! The required command is in fact 'vacuum DG sync to magnetic north' and searching for vacuum will find it. This demonstrates how it is some times frustrating to say the least finding the required command.
Here are some more assignments:
|Required action||Search for|
|Align gyro with magnetic north||vacuum DG sync to magnetic north|
|Brakes on/off||Toggle brakes regular effort|
|Hand brake on/off||Toggle brakes max effort|
|Set bug to current heading||Autopilot heading sync|
